We have finalized a couple of dates for upcoming events that I think will be vital for the Vivid Church family.

On Friday, May 1, Vivid Church will host our inaugural Prayer Night.  I’ve felt impressed lately that we should begin to spend some dedicated time as a community in prayer, intercession, and thanksgiving.  This will be a great time to set a tone as we step even further into God’s plan for Vivid Church.

Vivid Church will also host our first Worship Gathering on Saturday, May 9.  I want us to come expecting a night of outpouring as we come together to lift up the name of Jesus.  

These will not be stuffy, religious routine but truly transformational experiences.  I am expecting nothing less.

Ever felt like there was something missing, but you just couldn’t put your finger on it? 

You’re not crazy. You’re hungry.

In our current study series “Hunger”, we are discovering the symptoms of hunger, its function in our lives, how to properly respond to it, and how God uses it to draw and lead us.

Here’s just a taste from our current series…

One of the most important things you learn growing up in church is the ability to understand code words.  Sure, you have your biggies like “salvation” and “rededication” and “santification”.  But there are many, many more code words.

At a number of the churches I attended when I was younger, we had weekly scheduled times where the church would come together.  

On Sundays, we had our “Worship Service” which consisted of a time of corporate worship, some announcements, and some preaching with seperate ministries for kids. On Wednesdays, we had either a “Prayer Service” or “Bible Study” which consisted of a time of corporate worship, some announcements, and some preaching with seperate ministries for kids.

Wait, what?

I never really understood why we used different code words to describe two things that were exactly the same except for the day of the week on which they were held.

At Vivid Church, we have three regular gatherings as a church.  Every time we come together we do so with a specifc purpose in mind.  This allows us to gather with a unity of heart and mind.  These gatherings are:

Community Group - These are intimate gatherings of 10-15 people focused on life application, fellowship, and mutual support.  These groups are the foundation of everything we do as Vivid Church.  

Bible Study - Uh… this is where we uhh… study the Bible.  No band.  No show.  Just a great time to share a cup of coffee with friends and dig into the Word.  Our Sunday AM gathering is dedicated to  providing wisdom for living.  It’s more like Sunday School than a traditional Sunday church service.  In the future, we will offer multiple topics during Bible Study so you can choose the class that best suits you.

Worship Celebration - This is our no-holds-barred time dedicated to pursuing God in corporate worship and prayer.  We believe that worship is an important part of the life of a community of faith.  It should not breezed through  or merely serve as the warm up act for the Word.  It is a time of consecration intended to draw near to the heart of God.

Although the official Bible study launch is set for next Sunday, we had a great time gathering together to share the Word this past Sunday.  It was great to come together over coffee and Krispy Kreme and begin to unpack some of the things that God has been laying on my heart for a while now.

Are you ready to be “Vivid”?

Well, if you have found your way here, then you are probably aware of the Big Announcement!

After much prayer and conversation, and the confirmation of our pastors (!!), we are happy to announce that we are taking the next step in what we believe to be God’s plan for the Darnell family.

We are planting a church.

Now, just hold on a sec.  I know.  I felt the same way.  After the initial shock hit me, I was suddenly flooded with an entire library of questions.  

Stacy and I will be sharing more on the vision and the launch over the coming weeks, but for now here are the details we can share.

The name is Vivid Church.  We hope to launch formally in February 2009.

Above all else, we are believing God for all of the people, personnel, resources, wisdom, and favor to bring this vision to pass.  (Sound familiar?… ha!)  

We are asking for you to pray for us as you think of us and agree that we will see the Kingdom of God advanced!

Our hearts are very full as we step out, but our eyes are fixed on the harvest that God is calling us to.
